Our language: State actors have historically targeted people with the capacity for pregnancy for control, especially marginalized folks. Although many of them identify as women, we recognize that not everybody with the capacity for pregnancy does, and society's gender binary itself contributes to discrimination and state violence and control. The same forces working to dismantle reproductive rights are also attacking trans rights; our movements and liberation are connected. For those reasons, in November 2022, we changed our name to Pregnancy Justice from National Advocates for Pregnant Women to reflect the inclusive nature of our work and our all-encompassing fight for the civil and human rights of all people with the capacity for pregnancy. And we use the terms "women," "pregnant people," and "people with the capacity for pregnancy" in recognition of the fact that everybody is entitled to dignity, equality, and fairness regardless of gender identity.
