On February 20, 2021, in response to a request by the Biden-Harris Administration for input on its drug policy priorities, Pregnancy Justice submitted comments to the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), the government entity that leads and coordinates U.S. drug policy. Pregnancy Justice’s comments bring attention to the need to ensure that the new Administration’s drug policy considers and includes all people, including those who are pregnant and those with the capacity for pregnancy. These comments specifically called on this Administration to use its authority to guarantee that issues relating to pregnancy and drug dependency are addressed through evidence -based health care and non-punitive policies, rather than law enforcement or punitive child welfare systems that destroy families.
All people, including pregnant women, should be full beneficiaries of harm-reduction approaches and subject only to those policies that are based on science, not stigma. Read the full submission here.
